Rathcroghan Visitor Centre is located is Tulsk, Co. Roscommon in the heart of undiscovered Ireland. Nestled among the rolling hills of the mostly flat region Rathcroghan was the centre of power for Irish royalty in the West for thousands of years. Home to the legends of Queen Maeve, the warrior Queen of Ireland who launched the Cattle Raid of Cooley and the ancestral home of the O’Conor/Uí Briúin kingship lines. This unique archaeological region was the centre of rule for the Connachta tribes who give their name to the provincial region and a Dynasty which lists many of Irelands High Kings. Many sites such as Rathcroghan Mound and Oweynagat (Cave of the Cats) are connected with ancient religious activity in Ireland and promote a host of myths and legends which still survive today.
